We tell the boys - If you have ambitions in sport, or just love playing or even watching, and realise
the importance of a second plan A (a career outside of sport) then we have a place for you. We don’t
care very much about how you went at your previous school. We do want you to have goals for the future.

We have chosen as our Auckland Sports College logo a design that is often incorporated into Polynesian tattoos. In Hawaii it is known as a lōkahi. For us, the triangles represent the four pillars of Pasifika life – Faith, Family, Friends, and Village. They also represent the values of Auckland Sports College – Faith, Integrity, Respect, and Effort. The Hawaiian work "lōkahi" is often interpreted as "united". |

Positive youth development is all about seeing youth as ‘at promise’ rather than ‘at risk’.
At the core of positive youth development is a prosocial relationship with at least one trusted
adult whose role is to provide plans and resources to move youth towards their goals and who is
able to remove, or bypass, barriers on the young person’s chosen path. Positive youth development does not use negative reinforcers such as detentions and exclusion from activities. “Pacific-style” acknowledges that most of the students at Auckland Sports College will be Pasifika and the school will be a space within which they belong and where students have a sense of ownership. |

We have been doing this since before Covid, but on a small scale. We can do all these things Your boy will make small gains early. These will build his confidence and he will give other things a try. Within a term he should be fitter, stronger, and with a bundle of credits. The boys work in small groups. They are supportive and competitive. |

We will offer a place to your boy if we believe we can make a difference for him, so long as he is not going to disrupt the learning or safety of other students. |
