Auckland Sports College is not yet a registered school so we can't take part in the Auckland Secondary School Sports competitions. Once we are registered our principal can apply to become a member of College Sport Auckland. If his/her membership is approved by the Board then Auckland Sports College becomes a 'participating school' and is able to field teams in secondary school competitions.

Athletics (discus and shotput) For youth involved in collision sports such as rugby and league, power is the goal of training in January. Power is the ability to deliver force at speed. Shotput and discus are both about power. We anticipate entering into the interschool athletics competition. |

Basketball Basketball is a form of active recreation rather than a competitive sport for our students at present. |

Boxing We like boxing for the intense aerobic demands it makes on athletes. Our boys like boxing for the opportunities it offers to hit each other. As a school, and if we have the space, we would like to set up some boxing bags and a ring, and contract an external coach to deliver two coaching/sparring sessions a week. Those students who wish to box competitively will be supported to become amateurs and join a club. We do not support corporate boxing. The dangerous young light-heavyweight in the photo is our Lima Fatu. |

Rugby Auckland secondary school rugby competitions are all U18, so we see ourselves fielding an U18 1st XV (initially in the 1B if that is possible with a view to promotion to 1A) and a club U21 team, or U19 if there enough teams for that grade. The rules of the Auckland secondary school competition are that students in their first year at Auckland Sports College are 'new to school' so only four 'first years' can be in the 1st XV team. |

Rugby League Most of our current students (2024) play rugby league. The season starts with the Pasifika Youth Cup at the end of January. We hold the McGregor Cup, a live-streamed under 18 tournament every year, and work hard to maintain links with NRL clubs that have recruitment staff or scouts in Auckland, although, as expected, most of our boys who are linked to an NRL club are with the Warriors . We intend to enter a 1st XIII in the Auckland Secondary Schools Competition, preferably the premier grade. |

Swimming We do not currently have any competitive swimmers. We have a large number of students who say they can swim but keep their head above water or stand in the pool to take a breath. Swimming lessons and then swimming lengths are an important part of our PE curriculum. Towards the end of the year snorkelling, kayaking, and even SCUBA diving may be EOTC options. |

Tag Most of our students have played Tag over summer for a number of years. We anticipate entering the interschool Tag competition. |
